Antone C. "Tony" Grawehr

Age 81 of Browntown, died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the result of an automobile accident. Tony was born March 25, 1932 in Monroe, the son of Anton C. Grawehr Sr. and Agatha Bruggmann. He was raised the son of a cheesemaker and graduated from South Wayne High School in 1950. Tony served four years with the U.S. Air Force in the 793 rd Air Control and Warning Squadron in Hutchinson, KS. During his years of service he married Alma D. Harder on November 8, 1952 in Hutchinson. Following his honorable discharge Tony and Alma settled in Wiota Township where they farmed for 35 years. Tony was a faithful and active member of St. John Catholic Church in South Wayne serving on the church council. He served two terms on the Blackhawk School Board, was a member of the Monroe American Legion Post #84, enjoyed playing cards, and was a licensed pilot. He spoke regularly on WISC TV's Farm Hour from 1964-1965, but he will mostly be remembered as a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Grawehr of Browntown; two sons, Joseph (Jill) of Verona, and John of Madison; a daughter, Deanna (Jim) Vanderheyden of Batavia, IL; four grandchildren, Cort Grawehr, and Tyler, Kyle, and Alyssa Schulz; two sisters, Mary Ann (Tom) Jagoda of Freeport, and Cecilia Klemm of Monroe; daughter-in-law, Dee Ann Bavery; and special friend, Dwayne Schultz, both of Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by his parents;  two sons, Thomas in 1964 and Donald Grawehr in 2008; and a brother-in-law, Ronald Klemm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Johns Catholic Church, South Wayne. Burial with military rites will be in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Antone's name.
