Arnold F. "Arnie" Stalder
Age 88, a long time Monroe contractor, died Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. Arnie was born on July 16, 1934 in New Glarus, the son of Arnold J. and Erna F. (Nussbaum) Stalder. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1952 and attended Madison Area Technical College. Arnie served in the U.S. Army from January, 1957 until his honorable discharge in December, 1958. He was united in marriage to Jean Storbakken on July 8, 1966 in Monroe. Arnie owned and operated Stalder Construction for many years and was still doing small jobs until retiring in 2019. He loved being a cabinet maker and carpenter.
Arnie was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. He loved dogs (especially his beagles) and always enjoyed being in the woods enjoying nature. He was a gas engine collector and one of his favorite pastimes was playing the accordion.
He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Jean Stalder of Monroe; his sister, Mary Amos of Fairfax, VA; sister-in-law, Nan Cnare of Madison; four nieces, Tracey (Zbyszek Walczak) Bushaw of Janesville and their daughter, Tess, Peggy (Gail) Stark of Franklin, Tennessee and their daughter, Mattie, Rebecca Cnare of Madison and her twins, William and Vivian, Julie (Conrad) Cnare-Ring and their son, Mason; and three nephews, Scott Amos and daughters, Jessica and Jocelyn, Todd (Betsy) Amos, Rob (Cindy) Amos and sons, Dylan and Carson. He was further survived by his loyal companion, his beagle, Milo. Arnie was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Stalder; sister, Josephine Goodrich; and brother-in-law, William Cnare.
A visitation for Arnie will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Memorials are suggested in Arnie's name to the Green County Humane Society or a charity of one's choice.
