Obituary

Bertha Johnson, age 90, of rural Argyle, formerly of Monticello, passed on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Bertha was born on April 7, 1934 in Monroe, the daughter of Herman and Emma (Abplanalp) Graber. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1952 and was united in marriage to Kenneth A. Johnson on October 14, 1953. The couple farmed in Washington Township for over 40 years. After raising her children, Bertha was employed at Pleasant View Nursing Home for 13 years until retiring.

She was a long time member of Washington Reformation United Church of Christ. She enjoyed bowling where she was in a league at Leisure Lanes with her "Plumbers" team.  Bertha had many hobbies and passions including gardening, cooking, quilting, and playing Euchre and Jass. She was also known for her excellent pie making ability. Bertha loved going on day trips with her family, and also longer trips such as to Switzerland twice, once with her mother and later with Kenneth.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Kenneth Johnson of Argyle; seven children, Keith (Jane) Johnson, Karen (Richard) Halvorson, Kelvin Johnson, Kandace (Orville) Stoltz, Kenny (Carrie) Johnson, Kristine (Ron) Oliver, Kurt Johnson; 14 grandchildren, Sara, Doug (Katie), Joe, Megan (Joshua), Amber (Justin), Shawn (Monica), Kevin, Kaila (Lucas), Brandon, Tyler, Dylan, Allissa, Mackenzie (Josh), Maggie; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Walter (Erlene) Graber and Fritz (Beverly) Graber; and a brother-in-law, Bob Underwood. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kurtis Johnson; and three sisters, Lydia Hall, Liza (Bob) Kramar, and Margaret Underwood.

A celebration of Bertha's life will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at Washington Reformation United Church of Christ with Rev. Kelly Volk officiating. Inurnment will follow in Washington Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on November 7th from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
