Betty Lois Cassidy, age 96, of Monroe, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Betty was born on a farm between Blanchardville and Argyle on March 3, 1929 to William and Nancy (Horner) Buckingham. She attended Pleasant Valley Country School (also called Brennan School) and graduated from the old Blanchardville High School in1946. During her high school years, Betty worked at the O.J. Steensland Grocery Store and styled hair for some of the women in the Blanchardville area.

Betty was united in marriage to Vernus Cassidy on March 11, 1947 in Waldwick, WI. The couple farmed in the Waldwick area before purchasing a farm in the near Blanchardville. They retired into Blanchardville in 1970. Betty and Vernus enjoyed dancing and traveling. In 1975, Betty took a job in housekeeping at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She retired in 1995 after 20 years of employment. Some of Betty's favorite memories was singing with the Sweet Adelines and dancing.

She is survived by four children, David (Barbara) Cassidy, Cheryl (John) Jonovic, William Cassidy, Scott (Barbara) Cassidy; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lorna (Paul) Jones, Velma (Kauko) Maki; son-in-law, John Jonovic; and the father of her children, Vernus Cassidy.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Karl Gant officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in County Line Cemetery, Fayette Township. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. A memorial fund will be established in Betty's name.
