Bonnie E.
Homerding
Oct 14, 1950 — Oct 15, 2026
Monroe
Bonnie (Wilde) Homerding, of Monroe, passed away on Thursday October 15, 2026, just one day after her 76th birthday. She was the oldest daughter born to Robert (Bob) and Irene (Thompson) Wilde on October 14, 1950. She attended kindergarten at Northside before the family moved to a farm southeast of Monroe. She attended Richland Grade School and was a member of the Richland 4-H Club for 6 years. She then went to Monroe Middle School and graduated from Monroe High School in 1968. By that time, the family had moved to a farm south of Monroe on Haddinger Road. She had her first son, Kurt, in 1969. She married Ken Homerding in 1970 and they moved to an apartment on 17th Avenue in Monroe. In 1972, Ken & Bonnie welcomed their son, Robert (Rob).
Bonnie did baby sitting in her home until her boys started school. She was a volunteer in both of their classes which led her to being hired by the Monroe School District as a teacher’s aide. She worked at Abe Lincoln School for most of her 37 years with the district. She mainly worked with Early Childhood, Kindergarten, first & second grade classes and as school secretary for 3 years. She loved her job, all the hundreds of students and parents she met and the close knit staff she worked with so much that she even worked summer school classes every year. She was always known as “Ms. Bonnie” to everyone she worked with both young & old, and she loved to make people laugh. She and her husband finally bought their own home, on 7th street in Monroe, from a first grade teacher she was working for in 1987. She and Ken divorced in 1990.
To fill in the days she wasn’t working at school, she also worked some summers at the Green County Fair, part time at the first St. Vincent DePaul store for 5 years and the Green County summer program for handicapped students for several summers.
She is preceded in death by her father in 1971; ex-husband in 1992; oldest brother, Dan, in 1995; and her mother in 2004. Bonnie is survived by her sons, Kurt (Karena Curtis) Monroe, Rob & Karen (Nedjedlo) Fond du Lac, their daughter Kaylee and Rob’s daughters Randi Brockman and Natalie Haas. Two sisters Julie (Kevin Kitto) and Tammie Holmquist and two brothers Tim and Joe Wilde, all of Monroe. Nieces and nephews, Jessica & Kristopher Kitto, Charity (Shawn) McMahon, Major Rood, Gene Rood Jr., and Royce Rood. Great nephews, Rome Rood, Patrick and Porter McMahon. Two aunts JoAnn Wilde and Beth Wilde, along with several loving cousins. She was further blessed with four bonus granddaughters and six bonus great grandchildren.
After retiring in July 2014, Bonnie enjoyed lots of different crafting projects, sending cards for special occasions to family, friends and past coworkers (later changed to emailing), fairy gardening, growing vegetables to share with her family and neighbors, working in her flower beds, playing cards and jigsaw puzzles online, feeding and watching the birds and bunnies in her backyard and spending as much time as possible with her family, neighbors and cats.
Bonnie wanted to make sure to thank Kurt, Karena and Charity for all the help, care and love during the end of her journey and a very special thank you to her loving sister, Tammie, for moving in to be her primary caregiver for the final weeks. She would also make sure to thank the very special Monroe Hospice team (Brenda, Kelly, Amanda) for taking such good care of Bonnie and her family. And finally, a very big thank you to all the closest friends and neighbors (especially Robin) for always being there to lend a helping hand! Bonnie always held a special place in her heart for each and every one of you.
A public visitation for Bonnie will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Due to road construction, enter the funeral home from the South. Private family graveside services will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bonnie’s name may be given to the Green County Humane Society. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
