Dale E.
Roenneburg
Apr 5, 1923 — Apr 13, 2023
Roenneburg, Major (Ret.) Dale Edward
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great great-grandfather passed away at Aster Assisted Living in Monroe, Wisconsin, Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the age of 100 years. Dale was born April 5, 1923, in Monroe and raised in Twin Grove. He is survived by his daughter, Lureen Honig, El Paso, Texas; his granddaughters and their families, Renée Viens (Michael and sons Nicholas and Andrew), Tewksbury, Massachusetts, Heather Honig, The Colony, Texas, Stephanie Stager (Ted and daughter Emma), Macomb, Michigan; great granddaughter, Megan Parr (Taylor and son Hudson), Plano, Texas; and his son-in-law, Dr. William Zeiger, Macomb, Michigan. Dale was pre-deceased by his wife, Louise, nee Hintz; his parents, Franklin and Minnie (nee Raether) Roenneburg; his brothers, Kenneth and Allen; a sister, Ellen; and his daughter Carolyn Zeiger.
Dale enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and was wounded twice in the Pacific Theater of World War II. Following the war, Dale remained in the Army for a total of 22 years of service through the Korean Conflict and the early years of the Vietnam War. Since he served during Cold War years, Dale proudly called himself a "four-war veteran." Following his World War II service, he married Louise Hintz in Brodhead and took his family to many military postings: a number of East Coast locations; post-war Germany; Fort Sheridan, Illinois; and Zama, Japan. In 1965 Dale and Louise retired to Brodhead, built their home, and owned and operated the local A&W Drive-in. In retirement, Dale was an active member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He also served for seven years on the board for the Sugar River Recreational Trail, Inc., and was a member of the Congressional District Service Academy Selection Board for eight years.
The Christian funeral service will take place on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church, 1708 6th Avenue West, Brodhead, where Dale and Louise were married and where they were active members. Visitation will be at the church an hour before the service. The committal of Dale's mortal remains will follow the funeral at Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead, where they will await the Resurrection. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church will be appreciated by the family. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
