Dorothy V. Trumpy
Age 96 of Monroe, died Friday, December 13, 2013 at her home. Dorothy was born March 5, 1917 in Cadiz Township, Green County, the daughter of James D. and Hulda (Zimmerman) Bechtolt. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1934 and Green County Normal School (now the Behring Senior Center) in 1935. Dorothy taught for nine years in various school houses. She married Harvey Trumpy on June 2, 1940 in Monroe. She was a homemaker and mother to their three children. Dorothy was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, Peace and Friendship Circle, Green County Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Retired Educators of Green County, Historic Cheesemaking Center, Inc., New World's Swiss Club, Monroe Moose Lodge #754, and the Lida Ludlow Reading Club. In her younger years, Dorothy was an active member of Monroe Country Club, and avid golfer, belonged to several bridge clubs, enjoyed traveling with her husband, and thoroughly enjoyed life.
Survivors include two sons, James Trumpy of Madison, WI, and John Trumpy of Clayton, CA ; a daughter, Joy Goldberg of Kingston, TN; two granddaughters, Eirene (Brian) Heidleberger of Chicago, IL and Leigh (Fred) Hopf of Largo, FL; three great grandchildren, Cole, Grey, and Wells Heidleberger. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey on November 1, 1998, and son-in-law, Paul Goldberg.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Booth officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. A private family burial will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given in Dorothy's name to the Monroe Excellence in Education Fund in care of The Monroe Fund; Historic Cheesemaking Center, United Methodist Church, Green County Historical Society, or any favorite charity.
