Edna Ada Weckerly, 105, formerly of Monroe, died Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Our House Senior Living, Janesville, WI. She was born in Monroe Township to Fred and Barbara (Kundert) Neuenschwander, the seventh of eight children.
Edna grew up in Monroe and attended Monroe schools. She married Fay Weckerly in 1928. They lived for several years in South Wayne and then Mineral Point, where she resided until the death of her husband in 1977, when she returned to Monroe. She was able to live in her own home until just past her 105 th birthday, thanks to loving family, caring personal care workers, and helpful neighbors and friends. Throughout the years Edna enjoyed sewing, handiwork, cooking and baking. When she was younger, Edna also enjoyed refinishing furniture, chair caning, camping and fishing. Edna loved keeping up with the activities of all the generations of children in her family. She will be remembered for her sweet tooth and the twinkle in her eye when she tried so hard not to laugh.
She is survived by her son Gene (Pat) Weckerly, Arcadia, CA; grandchildren Mary (Paul) Gullicksrud, Strum, WI, Pam (Jeff) Schmoldt, Janesville, WI, David (Sandra) Weckerly, Niwot, CO, Susan (David) Hostetler, Arlington, TX; step-grandchildren David Moore, Pasadena, CA, and Kim(Ivan) Parry, Sierra Madre, CA; 14 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Dorothy May Holmes, son-in-law Lloyd Holmes, granddaughter Linda Deener and 7 siblings.
At Edna's wishes, a graveside service for family and dear friends will be held Monday, May 9 th at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Green County Nutrition Program Home Delivered Meals ("Meals on Wheels"), N3152 Highway 81, Monroe, WI 53566 or Agrace Hospice, 2901 N Wright Road, Janesville, 53546. The family would like to thank the staff of Our House Senior Living and Agrace Hospice, Janesville, for their compassionate care. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
