Eugene C. Stuckey

Age 88 of Monroe, died Sunday, January 21, 2018 in Monroe. Eugene was born March 5, 1929, the son of Carl and Florena (Miller) Stuckey. He graduated from Juda High School in 1946 and married Johanna Waelchli on May 22, 1954 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe. Gene farmed all of his life in Sylvester Township. He and his Johanna moved into Monroe in 1991 but Gene drove to the farm every day to help out his son, Ted. His passion was farming but he also loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Juda and he enjoyed playing cards with his friends, traveling with his wife, and in his younger years, bowling. Gene loved visiting with people and always had a story to tell.

He is survived by his three children, Lillian (Brian) Mendenhall of Denver, CO, Cheryl (Joel) Tertin of Monroe, and Ted (Lucy) Stuckey of Juda; four grandchildren, Jesse (JaNessa) Tertin, Lindsay (Paul) Rydzewski, Dakota Stuckey and Skyler Stuckey; three great grandchildren, Rylie and Paige Rydzewski, and Parker Tertin. He is further survived by his sister, Ruth Salzwedel of Monroe and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Johanna, on Sept. 14, 2016; an infant brother; and a brother-in-law, Frank Salzwedel.

A celebration of Eugene's life will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. Cal Schaver officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Juda, with a luncheon at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, January 29 ^th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Gene's name.
