Gerda B. Elmer
Age 92, formerly of Beloit and Monroe died on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Kindred Hearts in Cottage Grove. Gerda was born October 9, 1921 in Dubberzin, Germany, the daughter of Wilhelm and Emma (Brink) Beutel. Gerda and her family immigrated to the United States and settled in Juda in 1928. Gerda graduated from Juda Union Free High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Morris R. Elmer on September 6, 1946 in Monroe. The family moved to Beloit where Gerda was employed for the Boutelle Insurance Company for several years. Gerda earned an Associate Degree in Accounting from Blackhawk Technical College in Janesville at the age of 59 and then worked in accounting for a Beloit law firm and the Boy Scouts of America until retiring. Gerda and her husband lived in Beloit for 50 years and were members of the Sun Valley Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed gardening, many types of needlework, jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards. She loved having her family to her home for picnics.
She is survived by four children, Tom (Sherry Boyd) Elmer of Discovery Bay, CA, Nancy Elmer (Gordon Burki) of Janesville, Timm (Randal Luckow) Elmer of Los Angeles, CA, and Mary (Todd) Nieting of Waterloo, WI; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Charlene Beutel, Dorothy Beutel, Gladys Elmer, Shirley Elmer; and two brothers-in-law, Clarence Elmer, and Curtis (Nancy) Elmer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Morris, in 2009; a great grandson; and five brothers and sisters, Erich Beutel (infancy), Alice, Ernst, Paul, and Heinz Beutel.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. Randy Booth officiating. Interment will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Juda, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Gerda's name for the Alzheimers Asscoiation.
