Glenn L. Knouse
Age 84 of Monroe, died Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Monroe Manor from complications of a massive stroke. Glenn was born on July 21, 1929 in Wiota Township, Lafayette County, the son of Benjamin and Carrie (Hendrickson) Knouse. He attended schools in both Lafayette and Green County. Glenn married Julene Folgate on February 3, 1968 at the Orangeville United Methodist Church. They farmed in Green and Stephenson County until moving to Monroe in 1978. Glenn was employed by the Green County Highway Department until retiring in 1993. Following his retirement, Glenn enjoyed mowing lawns and tilling gardens for many Monroe residents. He was a member of the Orangeville United Methodist Church, Orangeville Odd Fellows Lodge, AMPI, and enjoyed bicycling and dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Julene Knouse of Monroe; three stepchildren, Nancy (Tad) Story of Rockton, IL, Norman (Julie) Folgate of Freeport, IL, and Helen (Dennis) Johnson of Monroe; six step grandchildren, Mike (Tina) Folgate of Browntown, Nicole (Jon Jay) Lewis of Gratiot, Catherine (Tim) Urban of Poplar Grove, IL, Molly Schirmer of Chicago, Erica Johnson, and Andy Johnson, both of Monroe; 4 step greatgrandchildren, Tysen and Blake Folgate, Josslyn and Jakobi Lewis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Christina Folgate; four brothers, Franklyn, Benjamin, Burdette, and Robert; and six sisters, Carol, Mae, Inez, Jane, Nina and Bernice.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 10:30 A.M., at the chapel in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Freeport. A luncheon will follow at the Orangeville United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund will be established in Glenn's name. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
The children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren always called him Dad or Grandpa. That meant everything to him.
