Hans A. Masshardt, age 89, of Monroe, died on Friday, September 13, 2024, at SSM Monroe Hospice Home. Hans was born on March 8, 1935 in Mt. Horeb, the son of Adolph and Lina (Baumgartner) Masshardt. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1954 and entered the U.S. Air Force on July 17, 1956. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 25, 1960. Hans and Wanda Smith were united in marriage on June 26, 1965 at the First Presbyterian Church in Galesville, WI. Hans was employed in maintenance at Monroe Clinic and Hospital from 1980 until retiring in 2006.

In his younger years, Hans enjoyed bowling and served as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 101 for several years. He always supported his children whether it was attending their sporting events, school activities, or helping mentor his sons in scouting. In later years, Hans enjoyed puzzles, spending time with his family, but most of all cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wanda Masshardt of Monroe; four children, Brian (Yuka) of Japan, Tami (Wally) Vroman of Evansville, Todd (Cheri) of Oregon City, OR, Tim of Naples, FL; nine grandchildren, Leo, Mana, Zamara, Zachary, Avery, Davis, Aliea, Kylie, TaeLynne, Isaiah; great-granddaughter, Nora; a brother, Eugene (Janet) of Brooklyn, WI; sisters-in-law, Darlene Flannery of Janesville, WI, and Doris Mathis of Rockford, IL; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Heidi Masshardt; an infant brother, Hugo; mother and father-in-law, Arvilla and James Smith; and brothers-in-law, Tarz Flannery and George Mathis.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 12:00 p.m., at Union Presbyterian Church, Monroe, with Rev. Stacy Cavanaugh officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will precede the service on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Hans' name to Jacob's SWAG foundation, SSM Monroe Hospice, or Green County EMS.
