Irving "Jerry"
Kubly
Jun 29, 1946 — Feb 28, 2026
Irving Kubly "Jerry", age 79, of Monticello, passed away peacefully with his wife Jeanne by his side on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Pleasant View Nursing Home.
He was born on June 29, 1946, the son of Francis and Orpha Kubly. He attended Monticello High School and went on to join the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, Nebraska. He was called home from service to take over the operation of the DX Service Station after his stepfather, Herman Schlittler, passed away suddenly. Jerry worked many long hours from the beginning, and even near the end, he was still working 60 hours a week. Jerry was united in marriage to Jeanne Elmer on August 6, 1966 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Despite the long hours at the station, he and his wife Jeanne always believed there was more that could be done. Together they built sheds on their farmette and raised cattle, pigs, chickens, and even a couple of sheep for a number of years.
Jerry loved fishing, going to Brewer games, spending holidays with family, and winning awards his family made for him. Most of all, he enjoyed the many great conversations he had with his customers throughout the years he was in business. His dedication to the community and his belief in the importance of Monticello to all who live there never wavered. He was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ and the Monticello Community Club.
Jerry is survived by his wife Jeanne; his sons, Iban Kubly of Monticello and Ireck (Lisa) Kubly of Big Lake, MN; and his daughter, Justine (Clint) Schmocker of McFarland, WI. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Traeton (Ivy), Creed, Eden, and Rafe Kubly, as well as Kian and Taye Schmocker; two great-grandchildren, Kaiser and Saskia Kubly; sister-in-law Kathy Clewis; and stepbrother John (Jeri) Wendler. He is further survived by nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Nancy (William) Brecklin and Karen (William) Hogan; his stepfathers, Herman Schlittler and Clarence Wendler; and his parents-in-law, Wilbert and Lucile Elmer.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., at Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Rev. Peter Strobel officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to Monticello Fire and Rescue or Zwingli United Church of Christ. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
