Dr. Jerry M. Ingalls
Age 83 of Monticello, died Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe, WI. Jerry was born on July 5, 1932 in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of the late Clair Lacey and Dorothy Mary (Crane) Ingalls. He graduated from high school in Minot, ND, in 1950 and studied pre-medicine at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. Jerry was active in ROTC, excelled as a swimmer, earned three varsity letters in golf, and was named Macalester College Athlete of the Year in 1953-1954. He received his medical degree from Duke University and completed his surgical fellowship training in Oklahoma. Jerry was employed as a general surgeon in Paris, IL, from 1963 until 1988, and during this time served as the youngest president of the Illinois State Medical Society (1975-1976). He was proud of his strong role in the Paris, IL YMCA building project. Jerry was employed as the Medical Director of the Monroe Clinic and Hospital (1988-1996), served as President of the Monroe Medical Foundation(1990-1996), and for many years served on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin State Medical Society and the South Central Wisconsin Chapter of the Alzheimer's Society. He was married to Marilyn (Peterson) Ingalls for 25 years and married Myrna (Harbaugh) Ingalls in 1983. Jerry loved his family and had a true passion for golf, winning several tournaments in Paris and Monroe. He had many cherished family memories of time spent at the family cabin on Diamond Lake in Cable, WI.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Myrna Ingalls of Monticello; five children, Bret Ingalls, Brian (Tish) Ingalls, Becky Ingalls, Brenda (Eric) Ruden, and Jessica (Jeremy) Medved whom he and Myrna raised along with Bob and Amy Freeze. He is further survived by seven grandchildren ( with two more on the way); a sister, Mary Jo (Bob) Purvis of PA; and a nephew and niece, Doug and Deanna Purvis.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Union Presbyterian Church, Monroe, with Pastor Jesse Larson officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials are preferred in Jerry's name to the Urology and Oncology Departments of the Monroe Clinic. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
