Jim Fillhouer, age 73, of Monroe, died peacefully under hospice care at Pleasant View Nursing Home on July 15, 2021. Jim was born on August 16, 1947 in Baraboo, the son of Richard and Lorna (Bartenbach) Fillhouer. He attended schools in Badger Village, Sauk City, and Baraboo. He married Susan M. Wolkow of Reedsburg on July 22, 1972. Jim worked for a few short-term jobs, including Badger Ammunition Plant (where his father worked many years). He and Susan moved to Monroe where Jim worked for many years as a maintenance technician at the Swiss Colony, fixing many cake, cookies, and candy machines. He often joked he worked at the colony for "37 years, 4 months, 4 days, plus hours and minutes". Jim was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church serving on various committees and the church council. He also enjoyed his involvement in the Green County Conservation League and Friends of Cadiz Springs. Jim loved to spend time hunting, fishing, and traveling and camping with Susan.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Fillhouer; godson, Mark Curran (Cammie Haffele); Mark's son, Ben, who called Jim Grandpa; two brothers, Richard (Valerie), David (Betts); sister, Cindy (George) Kephaert; sisters-in-law, Karen White, Connie (David) Reuter; nieces, Dawn Salmon, Debra (Scott) Michel, Robin (Chris) Walsh; and nephews, Scott (Marina) White, Rick (Tamara) White, Mike Reuter, and Nick Fillhouer. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Garry White.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, 1012 15 th Avenue, Monroe, with Pastor John Tabaka officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in his name. Memorials or condolences for Jim may be sent to Newcomer Funeral Home, 1329 31 st . Avenue, Monroe.
