On July 25, 2014, Kenneth Fredrick Krebs ascended to our Lord's house after a brief illness. Born October 26, 1938 to Fredrick R. & Rose W. (Gutzmer) Krebs at the Monroe Deaconess Hospital in Monroe WI.
Ken grew up on the Franklin Cheese Factory & farming on the Krebs home farm on Franklin Rd in Monroe. Helping his Dad, at 14 years old he was driving milk truck collecting the milk from the farmers for the cheese factory & worked right along with the grown hired men making cheese. Ken was a member of the Monroe area boxing team where he was a golden glove fighter. Ken was in the Monroe class of 1956, he was on the football team, chorus, and the operetta in his high school years. Ken joined the National Guard at 17 and served approximately 3 years & the Navy for a short time but was medically discharged. Ken always had a love for singing which was his inspiration for joining the Navy, he wanted to be a member of the Blue Jacket Choir. He belonged to the Monroe Barber Shop Quartet. He farmed the majority of his younger years until having to sell out in 1980 due to health issues. Over the years Ken worked at Chrysler in Belvedere, Swiss Colony in Monroe, Eagles in Beloit as a meat cutter, Monroe Cheese, tended bar at Baumgartner's and was working when the tornado of 1965 hit Monroe, and Carter & Grunewald in Juda. Most recently he was helping the local Amish community with transportation.
Ken lived life to the fullest, never missing a moment to have a laugh, smile, or flirt with a pretty lady, play a trick, or tell those that he held dear to his heart that he love them. His wife and family was what kept him going thru everything he endured. We truly are the blessed ones to have had Ken in our lives. Because to know him is to love him.
Ken married Marjorie Armstrong on June 21, 1958 in Wiota, WI, their union brought 3 children Marshall, Lonnie & Julie. Then in May of 1969, Ken walked into a diner singing "Daddy Sang Bass, Momma sang tenor" and met the love of his life Lillian Hale, they married on October 23, 1971 in Nora, IL, with this marriage brought 6 children Dusty, George, Jim, Shirley, Sharon, and Michelle.
Ken is survived by his wife Lillian, his children Lonnie Krebs, Blanchardville WI, Dusty Nichols, Wellsville KS, George (Kari) Krebs, Janesville WI, Jim (Gina Corley) Collins, Hattiesburg MS, Julie Kelley, Galt CA , Sharon (Sam) Warden, Reedsburg, WI, & Michelle (Rick Kamps) Krebs, Monroe, WI, & son-in-law Brian Haberman Monroe, WI. 35 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and his fuzzy baby Abby. Brothers Michael (MaryAnn) Krebs, Mark (Gail) Krebs of Monroe, and his sister Brenda Leuzinger of Monroe, and numerous nieces and nephews. Adopted children thru love James & Amanda Chen, and grandsons Sam & Ben. Special friends John & Carol, Joe & Laura, Milford & Karen, Elvin & Marie, and Kenneth & Lorene.
Meeting Ken with open arms in Heaven are his parents Fred & Rosie, his mother-in-law Bessie E. Hale, a sister Patricia Caminiti, a son Marshall Krebs, a daughter Shirley Haberman, and grandson Joshua Lee Krebs.
Please join us as we celebrate the life of our beloved Husband, Dad, Papa & our Hero, Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Hope Evangelical Church in Monroe from 4pm to 7pm and then from 9:30 until the time of the celebration of Ken's life at 11 am. on Thursday, July 31. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Ken's name. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
