Age 86 of Monroe, died Thursday, November 16, 2017 in the loving presence of her family. Marian was born on June 19, 1931 in Harmon, Illinois, the daughter of Charles E. and Julia E. (Burden) Miller. She attended Newman Catholic High School and Marycrest College then taught Catholic elementary school. She married her beloved, Donald Charles Place on April 11, 1959. Marian and her young family lived in Dixon, IL before moving to Monroe in 1968. Together with Don, they developed a family farm business which she continued to manage after his death in 1986. A faithful servant of the Lord, Marian was a self-sacrificing, passionate family matriarch who enjoyed mystery novels, crossword puzzles, owning and training harness race horses and dominating her family in Jeopardy. She was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church.
Marian is survived by four children, Peg (Joe) Stapf of Belmont, MI, Dan Place of Monroe, Dave (Nancy) Place of Philadelphia, and Pat Place (Brenda Peterson) of South Wayne; ten grandchildren; one great grandson; a sister, Theresa Klocke of Sterling, IL; and a brother, Hugh (Betty) Miller of Rock Falls, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, on April 18, 1986; three brothers and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church, 1760 14 th Street, Monroe, with Monsignor Larry Bakke officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 26, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested in Marian's name to the Apostolate to the Handicapped at 1760 14 th St., Monroe, WI 53566 or Catholic Charities.
