Richard (Dick) Warner Young, age 91 of Monroe, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. Dick was born January 17, 1927 in Chicago, IL to Arvella C (Bellinger) Young and Warner J Young. Dick graduated St. Rita High School in January 1945, when he enlisted into the US Navy during WWII. In August 1946, he received an Honorable Discharge and enrolled in Loyola University Chicago, graduating in August 1949. He married Marilyn A. Kohl August 22, 1953 in Des Plaines, IL. They moved to Madison, WI in August of 1953 where Dick and his father took over the Studebaker dealership and added Mercedes Benz. In January 1966, Dick and the family moved to Monroe, WI and took over the American Family Insurance Agency, which Dick operated for over 33 years. He had 6 children when Marilyn died in December 1968. He married Rena E (Richardson) Friske, in January 1970, who had 4 children. Dick and Rena added 2 more children to blend the family together. He retired from full-time insurance sales in December 1999. He was past president of south side Optimist of Madison, 70+ year member of the Knights of Columbus, Past Grand Knight, and Scribe Sir Knight of the 4 th Degree. He served on St. Victor's church council, usher, Eucharistic minister, reader for many years, and secretary of Calvary Cemetery. He drove for over 35 years for the Apostolate to the Handicapped.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Rena, 11 children: Margaret Mary (Brian) Matzke, Michael Warner (Kari) Young, Laurence Gerard (Pam) Young, Timothy Francis (Kris) Young, Kim Jeanette Friske, Kelli Jean (Jeff) Bauman, Kevin Jay (Malinda) Friske, Keith Ronald (Tammy) Friske, Ann Catherine (Timothy) Kreeger, Cory Joseph (Cindy) Young, Kristi Jo Young (Jeffrey) Schleis, daughter-in-law, Julie Young, 27 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Patricia, many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, godchildren and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, first wife, Marilyn, and son Richard Peter. He loved and enjoyed his family, traveling in their motorhome, golfing, hunting, fishing, and watching the Packers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Bakke officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, May 17, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family. At Dick's request, in place of flowers, contributions are suggested to the UW Madison Carbone Cancer Research Center, 600 highland Ave, Madison WI 53792, or St Clare of Assisi Holy Ground fund, 1760 14 th St, Monroe WI 53566. Dad truly enjoyed time and fun with his family and friends. He whistled A LOT and loved a good joke. The family would like to thank all the people at the VA Hospital and Monroe Clinic Hospital for all their amazing work, kindness, and putting up with his jokes.
