Robert Verdonck

Age 83, of Monroe, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. Robert was born on February 19, 1940 in Belgium, the son of Theodore and Yvonne Verdonck. He came by boat to America with his parents when he was 13 years old. Following Yvonne's death, his father married Mitzi D'Herckens.

In his early years, Bob learned a lot from his father about oil painting and pastels. After graduating from high school, Bob received a scholarship at the Chicago Art Institute and also studied privately under Gene Hall. He Served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1968. Bob worked as a janitor at 5 walk-up apartment buildings in the Chicago area. After losing the use of his left hand in an accident, Bob worked as a janitor at an eighty apartment high rise building. He was the father of a son, Bobby, with his first wife, Edna. He moved to Sugar Camp, WI in the late 1970's where he worked maintenance at Nicolet College. In 1982 Bob was employed as the janitor at Sugar Camp Grade School where he met his current wife, Georgia Moorehead, who had four children, Robbie, Chris, Katie, and Christopher. On October 1, 2004, the couple moved to Monroe where Bob served as Chaplain of American Legion Post #84 and was active in the Yesteryear Car Club.

He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore; his mother, Yvonne; son, Bobbie; and Georgia's sons, Robbie and Christopher.

Military graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the American Legion. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
