Ruth Ann Freitag
Age 72 of Orangeville, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Ruth was born October 18, 1941 in LaCrosse, WI, the daughter of Edmund and Myrtle (Danielson) Olson. She graduated from Soldiers Grove High School and attended Vernon County Teacher's College in Viroqua. Ruth taught grade school for five years prior to marrying Richard E. Freitag on April 1, 1967 in Soldier's Grove. The couple farmed in Monticello until 1988. Ruth was employed as a dietitian at Pleasant View Nursing Home from 1985 until retiring in 2010. She was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lena where she was active in the choir and enjoyed making quilts. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, all animals, baking, reading, trips to Branson with Richard, and enjoyed listening to John Denver and Lawrence Welk.
She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Freitag of Orangeville; five children, Mark Freitag (fiancée Lisa Kammes) of Monroe, Chad (Tracy) Freitag of Martintown, Tammy (Chad) Hartwig of Monroe, Mary Freitag of Madison, and Sherry Freitag of Freeport; nine grandchildren, Dillenger, Courtney, Megan, Steven, Andrew, Sydney, Savannah, Azaria, and Mercedes; her mother, Myrtle Olson of Richland Center; two sisters, Margaret (Jim) Neefe of Sextonville, WI, and Pam Olson of Beloit; a brother, David Olson of Berwyn, IL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, and daughter, Peggy Sue in 1997.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 28, 2013, at 12:00 p.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Lena, IL, with Pastor Miranda Klosterboer officiating. Entombment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Freeport. Visitation will be at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 1329 31 st . Ave., Monroe, on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Ruth's name.
