Virgil Keith Wunschel

Age 89, of Monroe, died Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Aster Assisted Living. Keith was born on December 10, 1933 in Monroe, the son of Virgil L. and Susan (Swartz) Wunschel. He graduated from Juda High School in 1951 and was united in marriage to Dorothy R. Brandt on June 25, 1955. Keith resided in Monroe since 1962 and was employed at Bob's  Maytag for over 35 years. He later worked part time at Monroe Ace Hardware until fully retiring in 2013.

Keith grew up on a farm and always had a love for tractors. He owned several John Deere, Massey Ferguson, and Oliver tractors throughout the years. He loved to restore and show off his tractors at local parades and tractor shows, even winning a few awards along the way.

He is survived by three children, Alan Wunschel, Laura (Joel) Culpepper, Craig (Andrea) Wunschel; a granddaughter, Trinity Wunschel; a brother, Ronald Wunschel; sister, Nancy (Charles) Koch; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Dorothy, on July 30, 2001; and two brothers, Gary and Robert.

A visitation for Keith will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. Private burial will be at a later date in Oakley Union Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Keith's name to the Alzheimer's Association or American Heart Association.
