William A. Miller
Age 79 of South Wayne died on Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Columbia County Health Care Center in Wyocena. Bill was born on November 3, 1936 in Chicago, the son of Edward and Edna (Holum) Miller. He graduated from Leyden High School in Franklin Park, IL in 1954. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1954 until 1956 and the U.S. Navy from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1960. He married Rosann Markese on February 27, 1960 in Chicago. Bill had a long career in the bindery business, the majority of it spent as Vice President of Operations at the family business of Holum & Sons in Chicago. Coupling with his strong background in operations, Bill also enjoyed sales and talking to people, which was part of the draw to become an Alderman for the city of Northdale, IL. For the past ten years prior to retiring, Bill worked at Wilson's farm in Burlington where he could be seen hauling corn or "driving pigs around" as he liked to call it. In his younger years he was a member of the Chicago Ski Club and enjoyed sailing. His favorite passions were riding horses with his children and fishing.
He is survived by five children, Peggy (Joe) Miller Steil of South Wayne, Matthew (Tammy) Miller of Monroe, Mary (Gary) Bergum of Middleton, Lori Bandt of South Wayne, and Liz (Jeff) McGowan of Blanchardville; two grandchildren, Lexi and Layne Bandt; his friend, former spouse, and mother of his children, Rosann Markese of South Wayne; four brothers, Edward (Carla), Don (Betsy), Arthur, all of Chicago, Robert of FL; and a sister, Diane DeClippel of CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jean Marie; and two sisters, Kathy Miller and Carol Moroney.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at 12:00 P.M., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Pastor Joseph Leverton officiating. A memorial luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post #84, 1627 12 th Avenue, Monroe. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
